The video game economy suffered a great depression of its own.

The video game crash of 1983 (also known as the Atari shock in Japan) was a large-scale, two-year crash of the video game industry. Too many consoles were springing up at the same time, which saturated the market. The rise of personal computers also caused a shift to buying PC’s than consoles. Overall, the gaming market suffered an almost 97% drop. However, 1985 saw the start of the second generation video game consoles, which revived the video game market.
